If you are willing to study out the history of the many and varied Denominations, and Sub-Denominations of the "Christian Religion," you will find that every Denomination, every branch of the Christian Religion has a date of creation, a day of inception, a start date that does not date back to, which does not begin with either Jesus nor any of the Apostles.
All Denominations are man created Institutions that God did not institute. --- God created one religion, which he gave to one people, the Israelite's (Jews). God ended that religion when Jesus rose from the dead. God left behind the True Family of God. --- In Jesus' ministry to man He regularly condemned religious practice and ritual and taught the ways of God's unencumbered family. A family, free from the bondage of religious ritual and constraint.
So the brief answer is the most obvious answer to this one question: If God is real, why are there so many Denominations?
Because man, from the beginning of time, has been subverting God, His ways and His plan for mankind, by playing at being God. There are so many Denominations because man is indeed that corrupt. Men did this, not God.
Thousands of years ago God spoke to one of His all-time great Prophets, who in turn wrote those words down for posterity, and our benefit. God said to him that He, God, would do nothing new in the earth, that He doesn't first tell his prophets. All astute Bible scholars and students know, that no prophet has ever said that God told them there would be a second religion from God. Point of fact, Jesus was constantly condemning religion, religious people, and religious practice. And it was in point of fact, the Church crowd and Pastor's of the time, that falsely accused Jesus, and who put him to death. Yet, in their religion, they believed in the coming of the Messiah, the Chosen One, the Christ. --- They killed the One they preached about.
In closing:
Christian is a religious name, not a name that God has given His people. The word (Christian) appears only twice in the singular tense, and only once in the plural tense (Christian's). Not once, anywhere, does God refer to His people as Christians. Not once anywhere. He calls His people Children, and His Holy One's
Religion is control. God is freedom, liberty, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. There are so many Denomination's because humans tend to forsake true spirituality and gravitate towards corruption and control.
